Brazil arrives at the 2026 World Cup carrying 24 years of hurt and the hope that this generation can finally end the drought. Vinicius Jr. is the best player in the world alongside Yamal and Bellingham. Endrick, 19 years old, has already shown at Real Madrid that he was built for the biggest stages. Rodrygo, Raphinha and Bruno Guimarães complete a squad that, on paper, is among the most talented in Brazilian history. Brazil’s historic problem has never been talent — it has been converting talent into trophies.

The Certainties

Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool) remains the starter when fit — arguably the best in the world at his peak. Ederson (Manchester City) is the elite backup.

Defence: Marquinhos (PSG) is captain and first-choice centre-back. Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal) has consolidated his place alongside him. The full-back positions are more contested: Danilo brings experience but age is a factor; Vanderson and Guilherme Arana are the younger options pressing for spots.

Midfield: Bruno Guimarães (Newcastle) is the most complete holding midfielder Brazil has had in years — box-to-box, intelligent, capable of creating and destroying. Lucas Paquetá (West Ham) and Casemiro — who at 34 can still contribute in rotation — form the central block. André (Fulham) is the emerging option who could steal minutes.

Attack: Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid) is the starting point. Best player in the world: pace, dribbling, finishing. Raphinha (Barcelona) on the opposite flank brings technique and work rate. Endrick (Real Madrid, 19) is the generational bet: devastating physically, composed in the box, born for big moments. Rodrygo is the attacking joker who can play anywhere across the front line.

The Hexa Question

Twenty-four years without a World Cup title weighs on every squad call and every game. Brazil 2026 is different from the 2018 and 2022 squads that disappointed:

  • 2018: talented but disjointed, eliminated by Belgium in the quarters
  • 2022: best in the group stage, then eliminated by Croatia on penalties
  • 2026: younger, hungrier, with Vinicius at his absolute peak

The unanswered question: who is the number 9? Endrick has the potential but 19 years of experience. Gabriel Barbosa “Gabigol” could still be called as an experienced box option. Igor Jesus (Botafogo) is an emerging alternative.
